Mercedes Rhodes truly understands the meaning of “broken; but recovered.” As the child of an incarcerated parent, and later the wife of an incarcerated spouse, Mercedes has seen first hand how devastating incarceration can be on families. However, even through these difficult times in her life, Mercedes has always been and continues to be an overcomer.
Mercedes Rhodes was educated in the Kirkwood school district. In high school, her magnetic personality and genuine care for others was apparent. Throughout her high school years, there were several mentors that poured into Mercedes’ life, encouraging her of two major life themes: develop a personal relationship with Christ, and always maintain a sincere concern for others as everyone will need help at some point in their lives. These two sentiments were used as driving forces as she graduated high school, married the love of her life, began to pursue a career in nursing, and be cultivated in ministering to others.
In 2010, while being a devoted mother, and wife and being heavily active in her local church, God blessed Mercedes to graduate from Lutheran school of nursing with RN certification. Throughout the course of God developing gifts, talent, and skill in Mercedes, there were many trials. However with Christ as the center of her life, she continues to live a victorious life.
Currently, Mercedes works as a registered nurse and continues to sow in the lives of others through ministerial opportunities at her church, Higher Heights Deliverance. She is also the founder of Broken, but Recovered For H.E.R. (Healing, Encouragement, Restoration) support group- Keeping families of prisoners together through Christ. Her happiest moments are spending time with her husband and beautiful daughters ages 4 and 11.
